In Over Our Heads

Are we ever prepared to venture out into the deep? Are we ever really prepared for battle? What is it that emboldens us to take those leaps of faith; that ignites us to move forward with courage, in spite of our own limitations and fear of the unknown?

And when we find ourselves in these unfamiliar and unpredictable places, how much are we willing or able to endure or sacrifice?  Do we…

Not Feeling It (Check out my blog at www.outintothedeep.com)

At Confession recently, I shared with the priest that I was experiencing a spiritual dry spell. I wasn’t feeling it – didn’t feel excited about my faith, didn’t feel like praying, and didn’t feel God’s Presence as readily or often as in times past. I was aware that even the greatest of saints had dry spells and dark nights of the soul. Far from sainthood myself (I used to say, “I’m no saint,” but God calls everyone to be saints, and I don’t want…

As we begin this New Year with hearts full of hope and resolution, we must also make room in our hearts for Him. The inevitability of life’s joys, fears, and pains will test our strength and challenge our faith, but thankfully, our Loving Father, God, the Author of our lives, already knows what lies ahead for each one of us. He’s created a one-of-a-kind story for every single one of His children and even though each story is very different, they all have the same happy…

Do we surrender to our doubts? Become resentful or self-righteous? How do we know that we are where we are supposed to be, doing what we are supposed to be doing?I wish I had some profound theologically sound answers to these questions, but I don’t.  I feel like I’m bobbing up and down in deep water like a lifeless buoy at times, or struggling to swim against turbulent waves. But none of this is happening in the middle of an ocean. It’s happening right where I am now. It’s happening in me and around me.  I’m learning the hard way that I sometimes jump into things believing that what I’m doing is right and what…See More

I was aware that even the greatest of saints had dry spells and dark nights of the soul. Far from sainthood myself (I used to say, “I’m no saint,” but God calls everyone to be saints, and I don’t want to argue with Him about that), I was very troubled over my tepid relationship with Christ. I was afraid that my considerably less-than- mustard seed faith was in danger of shriveling up and dying, and even feeling a little guilty because I had lost my sense of zeal in prayer and worship.Thank goodness Our Heavenly Father is so much more than how we feel about Him! Yet, in His All-Knowing, Constant, Eternal and Perfect Presence, God humbles Himself to be human like us through His Son, Jesus, experiencing  all of what we feel, even during those…See More

The inevitability of life’s joys, fears, and pains will test our strength and challenge our faith, but thankfully, our Loving Father, God, the Author of our lives, already knows what lies ahead for each one of us. He’s created a one-of-a-kind story for every single one of His children and even though each story is very different, they all have the same happy ending (or better yet, “beginning”). Because if we live our life stories the way God wrote them, then we will spend our allotted time on earth using our unique God-given talents and abilities (and everyone has them, even though some might have difficulty believing that they do) finding ways to glorify and honor Him while bringing others closer to Him. Once He has decided His mission has been accomplished with us on this earth, He then calls us back to be with Him forever in Heaven.Approach each goal, each obstacle, each…See More
